Families are vulnerable. Almost 1 in 3 children are growing up in a one person home. At-risk youth are looking for adult guidance and life meaning.
Our Foster Grandparents help fill this void through mentoring, tutoring and nurturing.
The Foster Grandparent program is a Senior Corps program which Catholic Charities has administered in Cincinnati since 1965. We place more than 80 senior volunteers a year into 38 schools, hospitals, daycare centers, juvenile facilities and sheltered workshops to serve disadvantaged children and youth.
To many of our volunteers, it is one of the most satisfying things in life that they will ever do. To the kids they mentor, the impact is priceless and long-lasting.
There is some financial compensation for Foster Grandparents.
- 40 hours of paid orientation
- a stipend of $2.65/hour
- mileage reimbursement
- paid leave time
- paid in-service training each month.
